Retour au non-lieu
Jean Damien CHARMOILLE
1st December 2018 to 27th January 2019
Jean-Damien Charmoille has developed a ‘transmedia’ art form – oil on canvas, textual content, fiction – through which he aims to analyse the various possible representations of reality. In his desire to go beyond the ‘comfort-zone of the image’, he introduces images-within-images and displacement, experimenting with a fragmented and auto-reflective narrative. He presents this through a ‘sentence-signal pattern-language-landscape’.
‘Retour au non-lieu’ was co-produced by the Flaine Art Centre and the Villeurbanne Institute of Contemporary Art in collaboration with the Annecy-Alpes Higher School of Art (ESAAA).
Launched in 2007, the ‘Galeries Nomades’ is a bi-annual initiative that enables five artists from the five higher art schools in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, to produce and organize their first art exhibition with assistance from the Institute of Contemporary Art. The successful entrants are selected by a jury of professional artists and their projects exhibited in five different contemporary art centres throughout the region.
